Tim de Sousa is a strategic and operational privacy and technology expert with more than 20 years of experience across industries including government, financial services, healthcare and transportation. Mr. de Sousa supports clients at the intersection of privacy, information governance, emerging technologies and digital transformation in both the public and private sectors. His expertise spans Australia, the Asia Pacific region and the European Union.

Mr. de Sousa supports corporate and government clients in establishing and optimising privacy compliance postures, enabling effective digital transformations and building trusted relationships with customers. This includes the provision of practical policy advice, governance and compliance management strategy, regulator and stakeholder management, data breach response, and education and training to enable best practices in privacy, information governance and the deployment of new technologies. He is also a trusted advisor to clients navigating artificial intelligence governance initiatives.

Combining a deep understanding of evolving regulatory frameworks and emerging technologies, Mr. de Sousa’s approach stems from direct experience as a regulator and extensive, practical privacy, information governance and digital transformation experience in the corporate and public sector. Leveraging this experience, he also serves as an expert witness and independent expert in defensible digital marketing, privacy and security practices.

Prior to joining FTI Technology, Mr. de Sousa held senior roles with Westpac, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the New South Wales Government Department of Customer Service and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

In 2020, Mr. De Sousa was listed in the Apolitical/World Economic Forum’s Agile 50 as one of the world’s top 50 most influential people revolutionising government. He is listed by Lexology Index as a Recommended Global Data and Privacy Expert.

Relevant Experience:

• Developed the ethics and de-identification framework for the client analytics team of a major Australian banking group; provided expert advice on local and global privacy audits
• Embedded with the audit team of a major Australian banking group to conduct a series of privacy audits across the group’s international footprint
• Developed and conducted a privacy and data governance maturity assessment for a major Australian banking group; designed a privacy reform uplift programme
• Appointed as an independent expert on multiple enforceable undertakings related to privacy and direct marketing
