Sumeet Gupta

Sumeet Gupta is an AI expert and leads FTI Consulting’s AI & Digital Transformation practice. Mr. Gupta started his career as an AI researcher on deep learning neural networks and has more than 20 years of experience helping companies leverage emerging technologies, AI and data to build new businesses, products and services, significantly accelerating growth and profitability. He frequently serves in interim CEO and CxO roles to lead complex, high stakes transformations and turnaround mandates.

Mr. Gupta’s industry expertise spans across retail, consumer products, healthcare, technology, travel and hospitality, financial services and agribusiness. He has led multiple digital assignments advising Fortune 200 companies and Private Equity firms, including Blackstone, Target, Apollo Global, UnitedHealthCare, BlackRock, Optum, Kraft-Heinz, Cargill, Medtronic, Comcast, Roche-Genentech, Sony, Kaiser Permanente and Verizon.

Mr. Gupta serves on the board and advisory board of several technology companies and venture capital firms. He is a frequent speaker on AI at industry events with Reuters, WSJ, Adobe and Salesforce. His work has led to alliance and industry recognition as covered by Gartner, IDC and Forrester. The Consulting Report named him a top 25 Digital Transformation expert for 2024. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Gupta was an Executive Partner at Publicis Sapient. Before that, he was cofounder of a high-performance computing startup that was acquired.

Mr. Gupta conducted artificial intelligence research at MIT, IIT and the National Center for Biological Sciences.

Relevant Experience:

• Advised one of the world’s largest asset management firms on strategic investments in an advanced agentic AI platform-based business
• Co-led the launch of a national Fortune 100 retailer’s digital business, exiting them from Amazon’s managed partnership, the largest digital commerce launch at that time
• Advised one of the world’s largest utility companies on an AI strategy to reimagine their lead-to-cash commercial operations and increase revenue per sales full-time equivalent (“FTE”)
• Served as chairman and interim CEO for a digital and AI engineering services business
• Advised a leading global media firm on an AI strategy and target technology acquisitions to reinvent their business model, driving growth and valuation multiples
• Advised a major big box retailer on a multiyear transformation of their online and in-store business, launching multiple digital commerce, mobile and instore experiences on a proprietary cloud-native digital platform and establishing their AI and data sciences center of excellence (“COE”) to drive 40% year-over-year online conversion growth
• Advised a Fortune 100 health insurer on the adoption of customer-centric digital experiences and building their new digital product organization and operating model
• Served as interim CTO and CIO of a leading energy services company to drive a technology transformation and cybersecurity overhaul of their business
• Led a multiyear digital growth transformation for one of the world’s largest agribusinesses to establish their global digital office across 26 countries, launching their digital platform, new operating model and more than a dozen B2B and B2C digital products based on enterprise-wide data, AI and technology modernization initiatives
• Advised a global private equity group on transforming a strategic portfolio company into a next-generation AI-enabled fintech platform to triple growth on a constant cost basis and a new direct-to-consumer business model
• Designed and launched a global electronics company flagship’s direct-to-consumer digital commerce business in North America
• Managed the launch of B2B and B2C digital commerce business of a Fortune 200 medical technology company in more than 20 countries
• Led the post-acquisition redesign and launch of a leading movie ticket digital commerce business in North America
• Redesigned and launched a major North American airline’s digital channel with new fare classes and personalized promotions
• Advised a major life sciences company to design and launch a new digital health experience center for patients and clinicians
