About Bill
William McCausland has more than 28 years of experience directing complex investigations impacting government and the private sector.
Since joining FTI Consulting in 2021, Mr. McCausland has advised a wide variety of clients in such diverse industries as energy, banking, insurance and professional sports. As an expert on Central/Eastern Europe, Mr. McCausland leads business intelligence, risk assessments, AML analysis, pre-transaction due diligence and geo-political scene setting for the financial services industry, media companies and international organizations in the region. Mr. McCausland has served as an expert witness in both civil disputes and criminal matters. He is a member of FTI Consulting’s National Security practice, focusing on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) and insider threats.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. McCausland served with the FBI for more than 25 years. His final role in government was as Chief of Counterespionage for the CIA, where he led efforts to identify and neutralize penetrations of the U.S. intelligence community by hostile intelligence services, non-state entities and insider threats.
From 2017 until 2019, Mr. McCausland was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (“ASAC”) of the Special Counsel’s Office. Prior to that, he led the FBI’s criminal branch in Connecticut, overseeing investigations into public corruption, financial schemes, violent crime and cyber matters.
Mr. McCausland practiced law in the State of Florida prior to joining the FBI. He holds a B.A. in Government and Law from Lafayette College and a J.D. from Vermont Law School. He was a first responder to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
