Sunny Yi

Sunny Yi is a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance segment and leads the Business Transformation team for North Asia.

Mr. Yi was previously the Managing Partner of a global consulting firm in Korea. Prior to that, he held roles as CEO of Shinhan Digital Solution Company and Chief Digital and Transformation Officer for the Shinhan Financial Group from 2019 to 2023, the largest Financial Group in Korea with an assets under management (“AUM”) of USD1 trillion and 18 operating companies in 35 countries.

Mr. Yi spent nearly 20 years with a global strategy consulting firm, where he was the first Asian elected member of the Board of Directors and held leadership roles covering Asia across 12 markets, with responsibility for financial services and private equity clients. Mr. Yi’s notable cases include some of the first financial services private equity and turnaround deals in Asia, and the first major private equity-owned banking turnaround assignment in Japan. He has led multiple large-scale turnaround cases, two of which are included in Harvard Business School case studies. 

Mr. Yi was voted “Best CDO of the Year” in 2021 by Maekyung Media Group for revolutionizing Shinhan retail branches and mobile phone operating models.

Mr. Yi has also held many prominent and critical roles in the government sector, including as an economic advisor to President Park Geun-hye of Korea, and is a prestigious National Policy Advisory Committee member. He also served the previous President, Lee Myung-bak, as a financial and economic advisor. Mr. Yi is an advisor to several government agencies and regulatory bodies, including the Seoul Mayor’s office, the Ministry of Energy and the Financial Supervisory Board. He is a regular lecturer at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (“KAIST”), Yonsei University and Seoul National University. He also served as an outside Board Member for LG Electronics, Hyundai Group, Korea Post Office, Daewoo Securities, Kyobo Advisory and AIA.

Mr. Yi has authored more than 12 best-selling management books written and published in English, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
