Selvin Akkus-Clemens, Ph.D.

Selvin Akkus-Clemens is a Managing Director in the Economic Consulting segment with more than 14 years of experience advising clients and regulators on complex economic issues, with a focus on arbitration, securities litigation and antitrust matters.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Akkus-Clemens worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) as a senior financial economist within the Office of Litigation Economics. Her work spanned cases involving market manipulation, unregistered dealers, investor harm assessments and complex trading strategies, including cherry-picking analysis. She was recognized with four SEC awards for individual contributions to litigation support and rulemaking, including Chair’s Award for Excellence.

Before her tenure at the SEC, Dr. Akkus-Clemens served as a senior financial economist on post-implementation review projects within the Office of Economic and Risk Analysis at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (“PCAOB”), where she analyzed the real-world effects of audit regulations and contributed to economic analyses of audit standards affecting U.S.-listed companies. She was received three awards for her contributions to the agency.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Akkus-Clemens was a senior economist for Bates White Economic Consulting, where she worked on high-profile antitrust cases involving mergers, monopolization claims and competition policy. Her experience includes analyzing large datasets, preparing expert testimony, conducting econometric and simulation analyses and advising an international competition agency on merger guidelines and review processes. She conducted econometric and market power analyses in several mergers, including the seventh-largest global merger in 2013.

Dr. Akkus-Clemens holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Leonard Stern School of Business at New York University, with a specialization in competition economics, applied microeconomics and empirical methods. She is a native Turkish speaker.
