About Luke
Luke Shane is a Managing Director within the Strategic Communications segment with expertise in strategic communications, media relations and reputation management in the financial services sector. Mr. Shane is based in New York and brings nearly 15 years of experience working with well-known global financial institutions. Leveraging his expertise in strategic and crisis communications, issues management, M&A, media relations and reputation management, he supports C-suites and businesses through critical moments of disruption and transformation.
A seasoned advisor to senior leaders on boards and in the C-suite, Mr. Shane is particularly effective in providing counsel in areas such as proactively engaging the media, creating long-term transformation narratives and navigating complex high-stakes issues, including external communications related to crisis response, financial performance and executive positioning. He has successfully led strategy implementations and campaigns to protect corporate reputations amid periods of market volatility.
In addition to crisis and risk management, Mr. Shane also brings in-depth communications experience related to capital markets M&A, corporate governance, U.S. market structure, investment management and the vast subsegments comprising the global capital markets industry. He has served as the communications lead for the successful commercial launches of numerous assets under management (“AUM”) investment products exceeding $1 billion.
Mr. Shane joined FTI Consulting from New York Life Investments, where he was Head of Communications for the company’s $800 billion asset management arm. Preceding this role, he was the Global Head of Media Relations for Manulife, a top 10 global life insurer, where he helped establish the firm’s first centralized global media relations function. Mr. Shane also served as Global Head of Communications for Manulife Investment Management, where he oversaw the development and execution of the organization’s internal and external communications teams and mandates.
Before Manulife, Mr. Shane was a Vice President at BlackRock, supporting the iShares business through communications counsel related to the exchange-traded funds (“ETF”) industry and BlackRock’s product lineup. He also directed internal and external communications programs for credit ratings and index businesses at S&P Global. Mr. Shane began his career holding various roles in the financial services communications space, which included being a spokesperson and ghostwriter for Travelers’ public policy division and philanthropic arm. Mr. Shane is a graduate of Marist University, where he earned a B.A. in Communications.

- Developed and executed financial communications strategies focused on crisis, corporate strategy and transformation for several clients in the asset management and insurance industries
- Led the development and execution of a financial performance transformation narrative and communications campaign for Manulife which supported Manulife in delivering top-quartile shareholder returns and a record-high for its stock
- Led S&P’s communications response to high-profile investment decisions regarding the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, ESG, smart beta investing and structured finance credit ratings
