About Jeremiah
Dr. Jeremiah “Jeremy” William Schwarz is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications practice, based in Miami. Dr. Schwarz is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, attorney, experienced strategist, seasonsed public sector leader and operator. He has extensive expertise advising on complex strategy formulation and execution for business transformation, executive positioning and the navigation of complex public affairs matters.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Schwarz served as Chief of Staff, General Counsel and Senior Advisor to Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, where he led and managed the Executive Office of the Mayor. Widely credited as the “architect of the Miami Miracle”, he led the office’s high profile strategic projects and initiatives, innovative policy development and overall execution, as well as providing strategic legal counsel to Mayor Suarez and serving as the mayor’s initial designee and principal advisor during his tenure as President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Dr. Schwarz oversaw Miami’s advancement of a bold storm-adaptive infrastructure plan, public safety initiatives, historic tax reductions and led Miami’s subsequent economic expansion as a global hub for finance, medical services, logistics and technology. For example, he led the initial design, development or deployment of numerous historic and innovative transformations of Miami, including Venture Miami (tech sector relocation initiative), Miami Forever (resilience policy legislation), Miami For-Everyone (quality of life and economic freedom legislation), implementation of the Miami Child Savings Account (for City of Miami school children) and creation of the Senior Citizen Rental Tax Credit (senior rental surge reduction initiative).
Prior to his career in the public sector, Dr. Schwarz practiced corporate law in Florida at a leading international law firm with a focus on M&A and capital markets. Prior to this, he also served as an economic advisor on competitiveness and strategic development in Singapore.
Dr. Schwarz began his career serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He completed his undergraduate studies at Fordham University and went on to receive his Masters and Ph.D. from Cambridge University. He later received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was a Yellow Ribbon Scholar. He has held postdoctoral research fellowships at Cambridge and Harvard universities and is a lifetime member of Leadership Florida and Florida Blue Key.
