About Christopher
Christopher DeSá is a seasoned risk management professional and former international securities lawyer with more than 15 years of experience investigating, assessing, managing and reporting legal, operational, regulatory and reputational risk. Mr. DeSá regularly assists legal counsel with subject-matter and geographic expertise on cross-border disputes and investigations, ESG and sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance.
A former lawyer with a prominent global law firm, Mr. DeSá advises legal teams on sophisticated issues that demand specialized knowledge or regional expertise. He regularly assists external and in-house counsel with risk assessments, sustainability reporting and compliance, privileged consulting, expert witness services, investigative fact-finding and forensic accounting.
Mr. DeSá also brings significant expertise in Latin America, having assisted counsel on some of the region’s most high-profile disputes and investigations. He also supports counsel and their corporate clients on a wide range of sustainability-related reporting issues.
Prior to rejoining FTI Consulting, Mr. DeSá led the sustainability practice at a global financial and risk advisory firm. He began his career as a securities lawyer in the São Paulo office of White & Case, LLP.
Mr. DeSá holds a M.Phil., with distinction, from the University of Oxford, and he earned his J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was a member of the Texas Law Review. Additionally, he holds a B.A. in philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles. Mr. DeSá is fluent in English and Portuguese and offers a working knowledge of Spanish.
Relevant Experience:
- Developed expert reports for counsel with detailed analyses and assessments of corruption and fraud allegations in multibillion-dollar post-acquisition arbitration disputes in the global forest products and data center industries
- Provided an expert report for counsel on the political and regulatory environment in Brazil’s oil and gas industry in a high-profile U.S. securities litigation
- Oversaw a complex investigation into fraud and corruption involving a leading Brazilian insurance brokerage
- Assisted counsel with a double materiality assessment (“DMA”) under the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (“CSRD”) for a publicly held company
- Advised the C-suite of a leading construction and engineering company on sustainability reporting obligations
- Assisted a publicly held oilfield services company with its emissions disclosures and requirements
