Ching Watson, Ph.D. is a Managing Director in the Securities, Commodities & Derivatives practice. Dr. Watson has 20 years of experience assisting clients on various economic and finance matters, including complex litigations, bankruptcies and business transformation matters involving securities and derivatives, trading strategies, valuations, risk management and damages analysis.
Dr. Watson brings in-depth expertise in finance, economics and econometrics to assist clients with complex litigations and advisory matters. She has a proven track record of translating clients’ business problems into actionable analyses, conducting and leading teams of professionals to perform economic, financial and data analytics. She provides clear, incisive findings to both technical and general audiences and delivers impactful results to meet clients’ needs. Dr. Watson collaborates with academic and industry expert witnesses in preparing expert reports, deposition testimonies and trial testimonies. She has worked extensively with attorneys at top U.S. and Canadian law firms, as well as regulatory agencies. Her work covers various industries, with an emphasis on investment funds, broker-dealers and other financial institutions.
In her recent work, Dr. Watson consulted for clients regarding the valuation and trading strategies of cryptocurrencies, evaluated the engineered credit default swaps strategy, analyzed the market landscape of foreign exchange non-deliverable forwards and critiqued the modeling and stress test scenarios of collateralized loan obligations. Additionally, she has performed economic and statistical analysis to estimate the value of current and future talc-related cancer claims and has advised companies on the amount of cash reserves for contingent liabilities due to buyback guarantees.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Watson was a vice president at Analysis Group, where she consulted and delivered economic and financial analyses to clients, in addition to supporting academic and industry experts in delivering expert testimonies. In this role, she gained experience on analyzing the trading and hedging strategies of investment funds, assessing alleged market manipulation trades and evaluating risk management relating to structured finance products in large financial institutions. Additionally, Dr. Watson estimated the impacts of corporate disclosures on stock price, evaluated the economic reasonableness of investment options for employee retirement savings plans, valued securities and business entities and estimated damages in securities fraud and breach of contract matters. Her work enabled favorable client outcomes and contributed to winning many high-profile litigation cases.
Dr. Watson holds a B.Sc. in mathematics and a M.A. in economics from National Taiwan University, as well as a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
