About Breck
Breck Heidlberg has nearly 20 years of experience advising global corporate clients and senior government policymakers on complex matters related to sanctions, export controls, financial crime compliance, public policy, intelligence and national security. Mr. Heidlberg has deep experience leading high-risk global projects, managing cross-functional teams and navigating sensitive matters at the intersection of international business, geopolitical risk, technology and regulatory compliance. He has done extensive work across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Mr. Heidlberg joins FTI Consulting from Microsoft, where he led strategic initiatives responding to critical sanctions and export control regulations impacting Microsoft’s cloud, AI and emerging technology businesses. In Microsoft’s global trade group, Mr. Heidlberg built programs to control and mitigate trade risk exposure, including helping to build and scale Microsoft’s trade compliance program across the enterprise. He also spearheaded the development and global rollout of a program to identify and remediate trade and corruption risk in Microsoft’s partner ecosystem.
Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Heidlberg served as an ethics and compliance manager at The Coca-Cola Company, focusing on matters to mitigate and remediate risks related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) sanctions, anti-money laundering (“AML”) and fraud. Mr. Heidlberg was also a manager at a Big Four consultancy, where he led projects advising clients in the financial services, technology and public sectors on OFAC sanctions and AML compliance strategy, compliance program development, operations and investigations.
Before consulting, Mr. Heidlberg served 10 years in the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., including time at the U.S. Department of State. There, he served as a Foreign Affairs Officer, working on issues related to nuclear nonproliferation, sanctions policy, weapons of mass destruction counterproliferation and interagency export control coordination. Mr. Heidlberg began his government service as a Presidential Management Fellow (“PMF”), served at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and was detailed to the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon as an advisor for special operations and counterterrorism policy.
