Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson is a chartered accountant and a Senior Managing Director in the Economic & Financial Consulting segment and has been based in Hong Kong since 2015. Ben provides expert financial advice in contentious and noncontentious contexts, including as an expert witness in international arbitration and litigation matters, as an expert determiner and as an advisor in transactions and regulatory matters. His experience includes valuations of assets and businesses, the quantification of lost profits, advice relating to accounting matters and advice in the context of competition investigations.

Ben has testified as an expert witness in numerous litigation and arbitration matters in Hong Kong, China and globally. He is listed in the Who’s Who Legal guides, including as a ‘Global Elite Thought Leader — Under 45’.

Ben has worked on matters in various industries, including energy, financial services, hospitality, infrastructure, media, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, real estate, retail, steel, technology and telecoms, and much of his work involves Greater China. He has been involved in more than 100 expert witness matters in various forums, including courts in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, India, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands, as well as arbitrations under ICC, HKIAC, CIETAC, SIAC, ICSID, DIFC-LCIA, AAA, UNCITRAL, CRCICA and ad hoc rules.

Ben serves on the Finance & Administration Committee of the HKIAC and has been a guest lecturer to the University of Hong Kong LLM for its Arbitration & Dispute Resolution programme. He delivers training courses to law firms on the quantification of damages, valuation and working with and cross-examining expert witnesses, among other topics. In addition, Ben has published articles on a variety of industry topics, including the assessment of country risk in the quantification of damages.

Ben is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (‘ICAEW’), where he has been listed in the association’s International Order of Merit. Additionally, he holds a first-class honours degree in economics from the University of Warwick.
